Workshops: Pelvic Health in The Performing Arts and Sport

Pelvic health is a vital, yet often overlooked, aspect of a performer’s wellbeing. It plays a key role in core control, breath support, injury prevention, and overall physical performance.

Our tailored pelvic health workshops are designed specifically for the unique demands of performing artists and sports people. Whether you’re a dance studio, circus school, performing arts company, sports club or sports institute, we collaborate with your team to deliver content that suits your needs. This may include:

  • Pre/postnatal education
  • Pelvic floor education
  • Pelvic health screenings
  • Targeted treatment and support strategies

Recent research shows high prevalence of pelvic floor symptoms among both performing artists and athletes.

This reflects the pressing need to bring pelvic health awareness, education and support into the studio and performance spaces.

Our team member, Jess, is currently leading research to better understand the prevalence, impact, and risk factors contributing to pelvic floor symptoms in performing artists. Her work will help shape the future of care and support in this space.

Performance & Sports Physiotherapy

Pelvic Health and Sports and Performance Physiotherapy

If you’re experiencing pelvic floor symptoms or are pre/post-natal and want to return to sport or performance, our physiotherapist can guide you through a personalised recovery plan to help you return to the activities you love. We provide expert guidance to help you rebuild strength, endurance, and control, so you can get back to your goals!

Performance Physio

At 18 Physio, we specialise in performance physiotherapy, with extensive experience working with high-profile productions, including Hamilton, Hadestown, Company, and Strictly Ballroom the Musical in the West End. Every show comes with its own set of physical demands, and we understand the challenges that come with the repetition and load of performance schedules. Our team takes a proactive approach with injury prevention programs and screenings, ensuring you stay on stage or return safely after injury.

With experience working with Company Wayne McGregor, one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies, we offer comprehensive dance screenings. These screens are essential for identifying any underlying weaknesses, allowing us to implement targeted home exercise programs that promote injury prevention and keep dancers performing at their best.

We also understand that every person on a production team, from the lighting and sound departments to wardrobe, crew, and band, plays a unique role. That’s why we take a holistic approach, with experience working across all aspects of a production to ensure the wellbeing of the entire team.

Sports Physiotherapy

Our experienced physiotherapists have worked with athletes across various sports, including AFL, tennis, netball, soccer, gymnastics, and athletics. This diverse experience enables us to assess, treat, and manage a wide range of sports-related conditions. We use a combination of manual therapy techniques, such as mobilisation, soft tissue massage, dry needling, and taping, to support your recovery.

We create a functional and graduated rehabilitation program tailored to get you back to doing what you love as quickly and safely as possible.

Pre-Pointe Assessments

At 18 Physio, we work closely with dancers and their teachers to ensure you’re strong, supported, and safe as you begin or progress your en pointe journey.

Our Pre-Pointe Assessment is a personalised assessment designed to evaluate your readiness and minimise injury risk. We look at strength, mobility, alignment, and control through your feet, legs, hips, and core—all key to safe pointe work. You’ll receive expert guidance, and if needed, a tailored exercise program to support your development.

We offer a 60-minutes full pre-pointe assessment which includes understanding your dance and injury history, thorough screening, and exercise prescription.

If needed, we may recommend 1-1 or 2-1 (if you tee up a time with a friend) Clinical Exercise sessions to address any weak areas.
